Beautiful autumn in Okanagan valley !
C'est ici que se termine la découverte du Canada pour nous cette année. Non, nous n'avons pas tout vu, loin de là, mais c'est la dernière région que nous faisons cette année. C'est ici que nous passerons nos derniers jours d'été et notre automne avant de partir au chaud pour l'hiver !
This is where the discovery of Canada ends for us this year. No, we have not seen everything, far from it, but this is the last area we are doing this year. It is here that we will spend our last days of summer and our autumn before leaving warm for the winter!
Un pincement au coeur, un mélange d'émotions entre joie et tristesse d'arriver presque au bout de cette grande partie de notre voyage. A la fois une grande gratitude, à la fois le sentiment de sentir ce projet se transformer doucement en souvenir.
Heureusement, nous finissons par une région qui a énormément à offrir et nous ne nous ennuyons pas pendant nos 2 mois ici.
Nos premiers 15 jours vont de surprises en rencontres. Nous trouvons un "spot" (gratuit) des plus agréables au bord du lac, du coté de Summerland. Doté d'une plage, d'un parc et de jeux d'eau, sans compter la magnifique vue, c'est sans contexte un endroit où nous resterons quelques jours, et reviendrons plusieurs fois, seuls ou accompagnés de deux autres familles voyageuses québécoises.
Avec elles, nous partageons de beaux moments de descente de montagne à vélos, de discussions sur nos voyages, de soirées autour du feu. Nous fêtons même ensemble les 3 ans de notre petite dernière, pas si petite...
A pinch to the heart, a mix of emotions between joy and sadness to arrive almost at the end of this big part of our trip. At the same time a great gratitude, at the same time the feeling to feel this project to turn slowly into memory.
Fortunately, we end up in a region that has a lot to offer and we do not get bored during our 2 months here.
Our first 15 days go from surprises to encounters. We find a "spot" (free) most enjoyable at the lake, on the side of Summerland. With a beach, a park and water games, not to mention the beautiful view, it is a place where we will stay a few days, and will come back several times, alone or accompanied by two other families traveling from Quebec .
With them, we share beautiful moments of downhill mountain bike, discussions about our trips, evenings around the fire. We even celebrate together the 3 years of our little last, not so small ...
Nous visitons un vignoble, et dégustons des vins biologiques, tout en savourant le décor autour.
We visit a vineyard, and taste organic wines, while savoring the surrounding scenery.
Nous passerons 2 jours chez une famille québécoise et ses 6 enfants, nouvellement installée à Vernon (nord de l'Okanagan).
We will spend 2 days with a Quebec family and 6 children, newly installed in Vernon (North Okanagan)
Puis 2 jours chez une famille française nouvellement installée à Summerland, avec qui nous partageons joie et bonne humeur. Ils nous font aussi découvrir ce train à vapeur dans lequel il est possible d'embarquer pour une visite d'une heure et demie. Notre passionné de 5 ans et son frère de 8 ans ne se sont pas fait prier.
Then 2 days with a French family newly settled in Summerland, with whom we share joy and good mood. They also make us discover this steam train in which it is possible to embark for a visit of an hour and a half. Our 5-year-old enthusiast and his 8-year-old brother did not pray.
Et, puisque nous nous posons enfin plus d'une semaine au même endroit, ce qui n'était pas arrivé depuis 5 mois, nous devons aussi utiliser ce temps pour nos rdv dentaires, notamment pour l'un de nos fils qui en a besoin, et pour extraire enfin les 2 dents de sagesse qu'il me restait. Eh oui, notre corps n'est pas toujours en voyage, lui !
Quand même, nous avons hâte de retrouver la chaleur. En attendant, nous avons fabriqué une guirlande pour décompter les dodos qui nous séparent de notre hiver au soleil 😉
And as we are finally more than a week in the same place, which has not happened in the past 5 months, we also have to use this time for our dental appointments, especially for one of our sons who needs it, and to finally extract the 2 wisdom teeth that I had left. Yes, our body is not always traveling, him!
Still, we can not wait to find the heat again. In the meantime, we have made a garland to count the nights that separate us from our winter in the sun 😉
Le gros avantage de l'Okanagan c'est qu'il pleut très rarement. Durant ces 2 mois ici, nous n'avons quasiment pas eu de pluie. L'un de ces jours gris nous a permis de découvrir un très joli et incroyable petit musée du train, à Osoyos. Il a été entièrement fait, pendant 18 ans, par la famille qui maintenant gère le musée.
The big advantage of the Okanagan Valley is that it rains very rarely. During these 2 months here, we have had really little rain. One of those grey days allowed us to discover a very nice and incredible little museum of the train, in Osoyos. It has been entirely done, for 18 years, by the family that now runs the museum.
Et lors des très belles journées ensoleillées (bien que parfois un peu froides), nous avons pratiqué notre activité préférée: la randonnée. En alternance avec des sorties au skate parc, des trails de vélos de montagnes, et des sorties au parc de jeux... comme ça, tout le monde est content !
Que dire des paysages ici ! Ils sont splendides, grandioses. On ne s'en lasse pas !
And during the beautiful sunny days (although sometimes a little cold), we practiced our favorite activity: hiking. In alternation with outings to the skate park, mountain bike trails, and outings to the playground ... like that, everyone is happy!
What about the landscapes here! They are splendid, grandiose. We never tire !
Nous arrivons maintenant à la fin de notre automne ici, et il est temps vraiment de quitter notre roulotte... les quelques nuits froides nous rappellent que l'hiver n'est plus très loin... c'est une question de jours maintenant jusqu'à notre départ.

L'automne s'installe… Il est temps pour nous aussi, de nous installer dans un camping au milieu des arbres et au bord d'un joli petit lac. Ici, nous attendons notre départ. Le rythme de voyage ralenti temporairement, nous profitons pour lire dans les bibliothèques, prendre contact avec un groupe d'école maison sur place et participer aux activités qu'ils organisent 2 fois par semaine, aller cueillir des fruits et des légumes. La vallée de l'Okanagan étant bien connue pour ses cultures.

The pace of travel slowed down temporarily, we take the opportunity to read in the libraries, make contact with a group of homeschoolers on site and participate in activities they organize twice a week, picking fruits and vegetables. The Okanagan Valley is well known for its crops.

On fête en ce mois d'octobre les 13 ans de nos grands jumeaux, puis on fait des tartes aux citrouilles pour thansgiving, à la demande de l'un de nos fils.
This October is the 13th anniversary of our big twins, then pumpkin pies for thansgiving, at the request of one of our sons.

De toutes nos randos, difficile de dire celle que l'on a préféré, tant le paysage est beau partout ! Mais, un petit coup de cœur spécial pour ce bout de la KVR (Kettle Valley Rail) au Canyon Mira, à Kelowna. C'est un ancien chemin de fer reconverti en sentier de marche / vélo, qui sillonne les flans de montagnes à 1200 m d'altitude, parsemé de ponts en bois et de tunnels… où passaient les trains !
Of all our hikes, difficult to say the one we preferred, as the landscape is beautiful everywhere! But, a special crush for this piece of KVR (Kettle Valley Rail) at Mira Canyon in Kelowna. It is an old railway converted into a walking / biking trail, which crisscrosses the mountain ridges at 1200 m altitude, dotted with wooden bridges and tunnels ... where the trains went!
Notre Halloween s'est déroulé sur une terre (une ferme), vraiment bien organisé par un groupe de homeschoolers. Une chouette soirée avec potluck, friandises, musique et danse.
Our Halloween was held on a land (a farm), really well organized by a group of homeschoolers. A nice evening with potluck, treats, music and dancing.
Nous arrivons maintenant à la fin de notre automne ici, et il est temps vraiment de quitter notre roulotte... les quelques nuits froides nous rappellent que l'hiver n'est plus très loin... c'est une question de jours maintenant jusqu'à notre départ.
